Delaware Governor Signs High School Sports Concussion Bill

Delaware has become the 32nd state to adopt a concussion law protecting high school student-athletes.

On Tuesday, Governor Jack Markell signed the into law a bill that sets regulations for all schools in the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association.

The new law stipulates that athletes, parents and coaches must be educated about the dangers of concussions each year.  If an athlete is suspected of having a concussions, he or she must be removed from the game or practice.  The athlete may not return to play or practice until a licensed health care professional examines and clears the athlete in subsequent days or weeks.

32 states, plus the District of Columbia now have concussions laws, while California, Maine, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Tennessee have legislation pending.

Gold Tops Blue in Delaware High School Football All-Star Game

It was a record-setting night for Lake Forest High School's Quadir Bryant on Saturday in the 56th annual Blue-Gold All-Star High School Football Game at the University of Delaware.

Bryant rushed for 240 yards in the Gold's 39-14 win over the Blue Stars.  Bryant broke the game's rushing record of 204 yards by Wilmington's Charley Cox that stood since the inaugural game back in 1956.

It was the Gold team's first win since 2005.

Delaware High School Football Pre-Season Practice Begins August 15th

Welcome to our new look for the 2010 Delaware high school football season!

With the first day of practice beginning August 15th, I wanted to take the time to thank all of my readers, who have made this blog successful over the past three years.  I have bigger-and-better things planned this year with more original content.

Also, don't forget to check-out High School Football America for great high school football stories from around the country.  If you have story ideas that I should know about, please feel free to email me.

Here's a look at important dates for the 2010 season...

First Practice - August 15th
Regular Season Begins - September 10th

Blue Beats Gold in Delaware All-Star High School Football

For the fifth straight year, the Blue squad beat the Gold squad in Delaware's annual all-star high school football game.

The Blues won the 55th DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game 12-3 Saturday night in Newark.  In a bend-but-noth-break game, the News Journal reports that the Blue stars won despite giving-up 298 yards rushing.

Delaware Seniors Prepared for Annual Blue-Gold All Star Football Game

The 55th Delaware Blue-Gold All Star Football Game will be played Saturday night in Newark.

According to Jack Ireland of the News Journal, one of the highlights of this year's game is the appearance of St. Mark's quarterback Tyler Hrycak for the Blue stars.  Ireland writes that Tyler becomes the third generation Hrycak to play in the game that has raised nearly $6 million since 1956.

Concord's Kosanovich to be Honored with Tubby Raymond Award

The Delaware Sportswriters & Broadcasters Association will honor Concord High School head coach George Kosanovich with the 2009 Tubby Raymond Award next month.

Kosanovich is the state's third on the state's all-time win list with 228 victories. DelawareOnLine.com reports that Kosanovich's team is coming off a solid 8-3 season.

Sussex Tech Coaches Retires

Bill Collick, who has led Sussex Tech since 2000, is retiring.

The Susex Countian reports that Collick's retirement comes on the heels of the Ravens best season in five years. ST finished 9-2 in 2009.

Delaware Interscholastic Coaches Association Names Coaches-of-the-Year

Two coaches who led their teams to the Delaware high school football semifinals this past season have been honored by the Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association.

Zeb Blum of A.I. du Pont High is the Division I Coach-of-the-Year, while Rashaan Matthews of Pencader Charter is Division II's top coach. Blum led his team to a perfect regular season, losing to St. Mark's in the state semifinals and finishing 10-1. Pencader Academy, in only its third season of varsity football, finished 9-3.

After 0-3 Start, Delmar Wins Delaware Division II Crown

Sixth-seeded Delmar beat Hodgson 12-7 Sunday to capture the school's sixth Delaware Division II championship.

Richard Long of PrepSportsDelaware.com reports that the Wildcats did the impossible after starting the season 0-3.

Salesianum Back on Top on Delaware's Division I High School Football Classification

First the third time in the last five years, Salesianum is Delaware's Division I champion.

Salesianum beat St. Mark's 27-20 Friday night in what was the first-ever state championship battle between's the Delaware's two largest catholic schools.

DelawareOnLine.com reports that this game was in doubt until the final two minutes.

Delaware High School Football Scores - Week 11

Red Lion Christian still needs a little help from other team to qualify for the Delaware Division II high school football playoffs, but Lions did what they had to Friday night beating top-ranked Caravel Academy 42-21 to close-out the regular season. DelawareOnLine.com reports that Jhurell Pressley led the way with 163 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Delaware High School Football Scores - Week 5

Wilmington Friends School head football coach Bob Tattersall became the second coach in Delaware high school football history to reach the 250 win plateau. According to the News Journal, Tattersall, who has been the head main at Friends since 1968, won #250 with a 48-8 home victory over Conrad Schools of Science.
